February 7, 2024 Program Call for Participation Submissions Workshops Share this page: Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Email By Kevin Jackson One of SC’s most important functions is providing workshops on a variety of topics that help inform the community about the complex field of high performance computing (HPC). These workshops are well-known for fostering collaboration and innovation and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of exploration and discovery. To keep pace with the ever-changing HPC industry, our SC workshops must be periodically updated. If you’re thinking of submitting a workshop proposal, or you regularly attend SC Workshops, here’s what you need to know. Introducing Symposia This year we have formally introduced the notion of a “symposium”, which is a workshop without proceedings. Historically, most of the workshops presented at SC have been “mini-conference” workshops, comprising peer-reviewed presentations and proceedings. Why It Matters Formalizing symposia as an option grants organizers the flexibility to develop a program agenda that best suits their event’s goals. For example, symposia provide a great platform for socializing early works and building bridges between interdisciplinary communities, without the pressure of formal peer-review and published proceedings. We expect this to improve the attendee experience by allowing for a more diverse and in-depth exploration of SC-relevant topics. New Form Parameters We have made some minor modifications to the workshop submission template. You will be asked to explicitly articulate your: 1) workshop goals and 2) how the proposed workshop format will support your workshop goals. Additionally, submitters should carefully consider the duration required to adequately support their workshop’s goals. For example, will it require a full or half-day? Submitters have the option to indicate that a full-day workshop is preferred, but they may be willing to reduce to a half-day. This option should only be selected if a half-day duration is sufficient to achieve the proposed workshop’s goals. Submit a Proposal Dig into your favorite HPC topics with your colleagues!
